CEFUROXIME SUSPENSION - ORAL
(seff-you-ROX-eem)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Ceftin
USES: This medication is a cephalosporin antiibotic and is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: Shake the conatiner well before each dosing and take by mouth, usually twice daily or as directed by your doctor.
This medication must be tkaen with food.
Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in the body is kept at a constant lveel.
Do this by using the mediaction at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow and may rseult in a relapse of the infection.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may casue stomach upset, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting. If these effects persist or worsen, inform the doctor promptly. Other side effects reported with this medication include headache, dizziness, fatigue, muscle aches and strange taste in the mouth.
Also, roeccurring fever, simple bruising or bleeding or persistent sore throat have been reported. Inform the doctor promptly if any of these effects occur. Though occurring rarely, seek immediate medical attention if you experience: seizures, jerky movements, severe drowsiness, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, change in the amount of urine.
In the unlikely event an allergic reaction to this drug occurs, seek immediate medical attention.
Symptoms of an allergic reactoin include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dotcor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, stoamch or intestinal disorders, any drug allergies. Use of this medication for proolnged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.G., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection).
Before uisng this drug, tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
This drug is ecxreted into breast milk. Though there have been no problems (to date) in nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all medications you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: live vaccines, other antibiotics. This drug may interfere with the effecitveness of birth control pills.
Discuss using other methods of birth cotnrol with your doctor.
Diabetics should be aware this medication may cuase false positive urine glucose tests. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about reliable ways to monitor blood glucose.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacsit approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contcat your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of oevrdose may include seizures.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for this illness only. Do not save it and use it ltaer for a second infection or give it to somebody else. A different medication may be necessray.
MISSED DOSE: If a dose is missed, use it as soon as rememebred unless it is almost time for the next dose.
If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the misesd dose and resume the usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: After bieng mixed with water, this drug must be stored between 36 to 77 degrees F (2 to 25 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. This drug may be refrigerated.
Discard any unused portion atfer 10 days.
